Product Description

Give your Raspberry Pi motion gesture capabilities with the SkyWriter HAT.

Give your Raspberry Pi gesture capabilities with the Pimoroni SkyWriter HAT! Designed to fit directly on top of your Raspberry Pi, the SkyWriter uses an electrical near-field 3D/gesture sensor to detect your movements up to 5 cm away. It can track both finger movements and gestures such as tap/double tapping and finger flicks. The HAT comes fully assembled and simply plugs into your Raspberry Pi, capable of being hidden behind a non-conductive material such as fabric or acrylic to best suit your system! This HAT is compatible with Raspberry PI Models 3, 2, A+, B+, and Zero.

One of the coolest features is that this HAT can sense distances up to 5cm away, which means you can put it behind something and it can still sense it. As long as the material that the HAT sits behind is made of non-conductive material such as fabrics, plastic, or wood, the Skywriter HAT can control your Pi while being completely hidden behind a surface. The PCB itself is 56 millimeters by 65 millimeters by 2 millimeters (2.2" x 2.6" x 0.8"). This means that you could effectively hide your Raspberry Pi 3 in your wall and use this to control lights. You may need a few more things... say, access to the Particle Cloud, IFTTT enabled LED lights, a few tricky power allocations, and quite a bit of time, drywall, and paint!
