Why Lenovo: Pioneering IT innovation and sustainability

Lenovo is a technology powerhouse with very humble beginnings.

Four decades ago, Lenovo was founded in Beijing with an initial investment of just $25,000. They hit their first big milestone in 1984 when they created, released and sold their own branded personal computers and became the top brand in China with a market share of thirty percent.

Since that modest start, Lenovo has grown to become not only the world's largest PC maker, but also a global technology leader that constantly challenges the status quo. Lenovo ranks #248 in the Fortune Global 500 and serves millions of customers every day in 180 markets.

Building on their mantra, "Smarter Technology for All," Lenovo continues to invest in world-changing innovation that will create a more sustainable, trustworthy and environmentally friendly future for everyone, everywhere.

Lenovo offers award-winning advantages

Every year, Lenovo is a consistent winner of technology awards from the world's most prestigious organizations such as CRN, the United Nations, APAC Titans, the Green 500, SEAL Environmental Initiative, and many more.

The reason they keep winning is because of the powerful advantages they offer including:

Made in the Americas for the Americas

Lenovo's commitment to manufacturing their products in the Americas resulted in the construction of a new plant in Monterrey, Mexico, which has been Platinum (200/700) certified by the Responsible Business Alliance. By having their Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) products manufactured locally, Lenovo can ensure quality control, supply chain efficiency and full Trade Agreements Act (TAA) compliance for all their customers in the Americas.

Lenovo's commitment to sustainable technology

Lenovo's goal is to provide smarter technology that builds a brighter, more sustainable future for customers, communities and the planet. In January 2023, Lenovo made a commitment to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, validated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). By working with SBTi and aligning to their Net-Zero Standard (the world's first), Lenovo is taking a scientific, collaborative and accountable approach to reducing emissions.

Lenovo's sustainable solutions include:

  • Lenovo Neptune Liquid Cooling: Improves thermal efficiencies by 3.5x compared to standard air cooling, which can decrease power costs by up to 40%; and dramatically reduces the need for community water with its closed loop water design, further improving the environmental impact
  • Factory integrated racks: Has saved 3.5 million pounds of cardboard and 1.8 million pounds of plastic over five years
  • More sustainable packaging: Uses 90%+ recycled foam and bags containing 30% recycled plastic that would otherwise be ocean-bound
  • Lenovo TruScale: Avoids over-provisioning, which reduces energy consumption for a lower carbon footprint
  • CO2 offset services: Funds many projects with carbon offset credits, including re-forestation, renewable energy and solar
  • Lenovo asset recovery: Has fifteen years' experience in asset recycling and more than 1M+ assets properly disposed
