About StorMagic SvSAN on Intel Data Center Blocks

StorMagic SvSAN is a virtual SAN (storage area network) that provides highly available compute and storage on just two Intel Data Center Block (DCB) nodes per cluster. SvSAN is a lightweight, low-cost, highly flexible software solution perfect for edge sites — from large organizations with thousands of locations to SMEs with small data centers.

SvSAN's highly available shared storage — supported by Intel’s industry-standard data center architecture — ensures that organizations can eliminate single points of failure and the threat of downtime while keeping critical applications running at every location.

What is an Intel Data Center Block (DCB)?

Intel Data Center Blocks are highly integrated, configure-to-order/pre-configured systems optimized for a variety of segments. Intel integrates and validates hardware, and Intel technology providers add operating systems, applications and integration services to deliver full solutions.

What is StorMagic SvSAN?

SvSAN sits on top of any hypervisor (vSphere, Hyper-V or Linux KVM) as a lightweight virtual machine, virtualizing the internal storage of an Intel DCB server  thus eliminating the need for a physical SAN.

SvSAN uses synchronous mirroring between two nodes to eliminate a single point-of-failure and ensure 100% uptime. In the case of node failure, the remaining node acts as a failover node and updates the failed node when it is reintroduced.

The StorMagic witness acts as a quorum or tiebreaker and assists cluster leadership elections to prevent “split-brain” in case of failover. Because of this industry-leading remote witness technology, StorMagic SvSAN only requires two servers at each location; and each witness can provide quorum for as many as 1,000 SvSAN clusters.
