Terminal blocks, also known as connector blocks, are cost-effective connectors that can link two or more wires together using the mechanical clamping of a screw to secure a stripped portion of a wire. The screw clamps an exposed metal of a wire to a metal channel underneath that connects to another screw, which forms the other terminal connection. Multiple connection links can also be built on the same block, much like pins in other connector components. The block housing is usually plastic to create a good insulation boundary for all of the conductive components. It can also be designed to dissipate heat for very high current loads. Because terminal block screws are relatively large, terminal blocks are typically used in larger applications like home wiring or industrial electronic connections. They can be designed to handle a high-current load, and would be cumbersome in small scale applications since their size is limited by the screws. Terminal block connectors are a very efficient means of electrical connection, but it requires the proper implementation of the product. Stray wires, improper wire windings, or improper stripping could cause malfunction, making it unsafe for installation.
