Capacitor Silicon
Silicon capacitors have excellent operating frequency range, so they are suitable for high-speed digital circuits. They offer wide operation temperature range and good long-term stability, which makes them well suited for all demanding applications such as medical, telecom, industry and high-reliability applications.Silicon capacitors have a high stability of capacitance over temperature range and also over applied voltage range. This means that their capacitance does not change when they heat up or when submitted to a higher voltage. They have low equivalent series resistance (ESR) and low leakage current.Silicon capacitors implement a basic three-layer capacitor structure conductor-dielectric–conductor in the form of the following: metal-insulator-silicon. They are available in the packaging form of a small surface mount device (SMD). As with any surface mount device component, silicon capacitor is ready to be mounted directly on a printed circuit board (PCB). Because of their small size, silicon capacitors may be used in applications that require miniaturization and in applications that are weight sensitive (the final product should be very lightweight). This is enabled by the high capacitance per area factor: a chip a few millimeters in size may provide capacitance of a few microfarads (µF).Silicon capacitors are similar to integrated circuits, so they should be treated with care similar to other sensitive integrated circuits. For example, while handling these capacitors, electrostatic discharge (ESD) may burn it (ESD occurs when an exposed human finger touches other objects), so protective measures should be respected.
