Peripherals Misc
There are many devices that hang on around the edges of a computer or processing system that do not tend to fit into a product category, but may facilitate connection or use of a peripheral or peripheral interface. An example of this is a computer monitor switch that enables the connection of multiple monitors or multiple computers sharing one monitor. They are used in server rooms where computers do not need dedicated monitors. It may well be that a monitor switch is a category in its right, but to a computer distributor, there may be an insufficient volume of the item to justify its own category. Another example of a miscellaneous peripheral is a mains power cord. This is something usually included as part of the bundle for most products, but there will always be the occasional customer who needs one. Power adapters can also fit into this category—a device that enables the peripheral to be powered up while sharing the same socket. In itself a power adapter is not a flagship most distributors will focus upon, but they always seem to be present in the miscellaneous area of any computer shop. As interface standards mature and begin to fall into disuse, cabling associated with that interface typically ends up in the miscellaneous bin. Parallel printer cables are an example of this. Despite the fact that parallel printers are obsolete and have been supplanted by better standards, printer cables are still required to support old systems still in use. Such antiquated cabling can fall into the miscellaneous category. Read more Read less
