Handles, Locks and Latches
A handle is part of an object that facilitates maneuvering and gripping. Basic requirements of a handle include its durability and its practicality of design (e.g. a comfortable length and circumference for easier, effective grip) Relatable handles are pull handles and twist handles.Pull Handles revolves around the manual pulling of the handle to open/move objects. These are commonly found on the exterior of car doors and drawers. Twist handles on the other hand, require pivotal maneuvering (a turning effect). These are often seen on doors. Locks are devices used for security purposes. Locks take many forms—ranging from the conventional use of a key or number combination to electromagnetic configuration to software application. The standard deadbolt lock (as seen on doors) revolves about the use of cylinder locks. Within the cylinder lock, keys turn the cylinder (plug), causing the cam to pull in on the bolt and opens the door. Upon changing the direction of the turning, the cam releases the bolt and seals the door. No spring mechanism exists. Latches are devices used to fasten doors or gates. They are also known as keepers or strikes. Some classifications of latches include deadbolt latches, spring latches, cam locks, slam latch and crossbars. Read more Read less
