In modern EV charging equipment like onboard chargers and DC fast-charging power stages, designers must balance high power density with long-term reliability. High currents, frequent load cycling, and elevated temperatures place heavy stress on PCB components and solder joints, while efficiency targets require compact layouts with strong thermal performance.

KOA’s WK73-series wide-terminal thick-film chip resistors are designed to support these demands by improving heat dissipation through the solder connections and enhancing mechanical robustness, helping enable stable, efficient and durable charging system designs.

Wide-Terminal Thick Film Technology

In EV charging equipment, power density and lifetime reliability are heavily influenced by thermal behavior and mechanical stress at the solder joints. KOA’s wide-terminal (reverse-geometry) thick film chip resistors are designed to deliver excellent heat dissipation into the PCB via the terminations, enabling higher rated power in a given footprint. This translates into lower board space requirements for high-power charger layouts.

At the same time, the wide-terminal geometry helps to reduce thermal expansion stress during temperature and power cycling, improving long-term robustness in demanding charging environments.

WK73R & WK73S Series

WK73R Series

WK73R wide-terminal thick film chip resistors are a strong choice for power and control networks within charging designs where stability and reliability matter. The series is available in the resistance range 10 ohm ~ 1 Mohm, tolerances down to ±0.5% and TCR down to ±100 ppm/K, and is AEC-Q200 qualified for demanding environments.

WK73S Series

WK73S brings the same wide-terminal thermal and mechanical advantages to low-ohmic applications and offers resistance values down to 10 milliohm, supporting compact, power-capable current paths and measurement functions in charger power stages. It provides tolerances down to ±0.5%, TCR down to ±100 ppm/K (depending on value range), and is AEC-Q200 qualified.
