Whether you call them bristle bots, wiggle bots, toothbrush robots, or any of their many other monikers, the tiny creature that can be made with a few simple parts will always make for a good time!
The electronic components in this kit are a small motor and 3V battery. The motor is a DC brushed motor with a weight on one side of the spinning shaft, which causes the entire motor to vibrate. This DC motor can be powered directly by the 3V coin cell battery and requires no other circuitry. The vibration motor uses the toothbrush bristles as mini springs and moves the robot forward by bouncing the bristles up and down very quickly. As long as the bristles are angled, the energy from the motor gets translated into lateral movement rather than just a bouncing bug.
This project is appropriate for all ages and requires no previous electronic knowledge. Due to small pieces, please supervise younger makers.
