The SLIC table defines the information necessary to enable generic activation of software. An OEM must be licensed for Microsoft activation and must receive the approved licensing information before initiating. Once an OEM pays for a pre-installation, (i.e. Microsoft Office) Microsoft will then provide an SLIC key in place of a CD key as well as a certificate file. This file must be matched in the system’s BIOS ROM. This allows the OEM to pre-active devices on a large scale without manually licensing individual files time and again. If, for instance, one needs to reinstall a version of Windows because of a malware infection, one should not be forced to pay Microsoft again for the copy of Windows. The license is therefore embedded within the BIOS of the computer. The price of these licenses is typically cheaper than retail versions because it stipulates that the copy of that specific software can only be used on one computer and not transferred to others. 더 읽기 읽기 안 함
