Serial Servers
Most commonly known as terminal servers, serial servers provide a link between a local area network and a serial port, most commonly RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485. It can link computers, printers, scanners and many other devices to the larger network. It is more cost effective and efficient than requiring all devices with a serial port to have their own networking interface or card. In general, serial ports have seen their usage decline over the years in favor of USB and other faster communication ports, but they still are relevant in certain applications. If you need serial devices networked, a serial server is almost always the preferred method for doing so.Serial servers can provide many required networking services, namely TCP/UDP packet conversion, meaning that the serial data can be modified to be used as the packets within a LAN networking scheme. It also is effective at allowing serial tunneling, where two serial devices cannot be connected directly with serial communication so they require transmission across a network. Serial servers can perform the desired conversion for this communication, and significantly simplify the electronic routing required for large-scale serial device usage. 더 읽기 읽기 안 함
