Application of MOSFET for Precision Control of Motor Drives

Different motor specifications with different powers of MOSFETs

By using power switching components such as MOSFET to turn on or off MOSFET, the voltage applied to the motor winding can be adjusted to realize the control of motor speed or rotating shaft position. The NTMFS5C404NL is a single N-channel power MOSFET supporting 40V, 370 A, and 0.67mΩ and has a compact design with a small footprint of 5x6mm. Both NTMFS5C404NL and NTMFS5C404N can be applied to point-of-load modules, high-performance DC-DC converters, secondary synchronous rectification, and DC motor drives. End products include Netcom, telecommunication equipment, servers, and hand-held power tools.

NTMFS5C604N is a 60V, 280A, 1.2mΩ, single N-channel power MOSFET in SO8-FL package, suitable for commercial applications with compact and efficient design. It is installed in a 5x6mm flat lead package and has high thermal performance. By adopting a compact design with a small footprint of 5x6mm, NTMFS5C604N can be applied to motor control, power switch (high-side driver, low-side driver, H-Bridge, etc.), and synchronous rectifier. End products include switching power supply, power tools, solar inverters, battery management, etc.

NTBLS0D7N06C is a single N-channel power MOSFET in TOLL package that supports 60V, 0.75mΩ, and 470A, and reduces switching noise/EMI. Typical applications include battery load switches, and motor drives. End products include battery-operated power tools, battery-powered vacuum cleaners, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)/drones, material handling, battery management systems (BMS)/storage, home automation, etc.

Power Trench process combined with shielded gate technology (T6 MOSFETs)

ON Semiconductor also has a series of MOSFET power devices produced using the Power Trench process, which combines with shielded gate trench technology. The process is optimized to minimize on-resistance while maintaining excellent switching performance and having the best-in-class soft body diodes in the industry. These MOSFETs have lower RDS(on) and better performance.

The NTMTS0D4N04C is a single N-channel, 40V, 558A, 0.45mΩ power MOSFET in a thin PQFN 8x8 package produced using the Power Trench process. It has a compact design with a small footprint of 8x8mm, high peak current and low parasitic inductance, and a maximum junction temperature of 175, providing a wider design margin for applications with thermal challenges. It is packaged in the industry-standard Power 88 package. The NTMTS0D4N04C can be applied to motor control, DC-DC converter, battery management/protection, power steering/load switch. End products include power tools, electric scooters, drones, battery management/protection, Netcom, telecommunication equipment and power supplies, etc.

The NTMTS0D4N04CL is also a single N-channel power MOSFET supporting 40V, 553.8A, and 0.4mΩ in a PQFN 8x8 package. Both the NTMTS0D4N04CL and NTMTS0D4N04C are produced using the Power Trench process. Thus, the NTMTS0D4N04CL has the same features and can maintain excellent switching performance. The NTMTS0D4N04CL has a compact design with a small footprint of 8x8mm. Typical applications include power tools, battery-powered vacuum cleaners, UAV/drones, material handling, BMS/storage, home automation, etc.

The NTMTS0D7N06C is a single N-channel power MOSFET supporting 60V, 464A, and 0.72mΩ, which is packaged in PQFN 8x8. This N-channel T6 60V medium-voltage MOSFET is produced using ON Semiconductor's advanced Power Trench process. With the compact design in thin PQFN 8x8 package, it has high peak current and low parasitic inductance, providing a wider design margin for applications with thermal challenges, and with the maximum junction temperature of 175.

The NTMTS0D7N06CL is a single N-channel power MOSFET supporting 60V, 477A, and 0.68mΩ in a thin PQFN 8x8 package. This N-channel T6 60V MV MOSFET is also produced using ON Semiconductor's advanced Power Trench process and has similar features to the NTMTS0D7N06C. With a small footprint (8x8mm), the NTMTS0D7N06CL is quite compact in design, has the maximum junction temperature of 175, as well as high peak current and low parasitic inductance, and can provide a wider design margin for applications with thermal challenges. It is packaged in the industry-standard Power 88 package.

Typical applications of the NTMTS0D7N06C and NTMTS0D7N06CL include motor control, DC-DC converter, battery management/protection, power steering/load switch. End products include power tools, battery-powered vacuum cleaners, electric scooters, UAV/drones, material handling, BMS/storage, battery pack/energy storage unit, telecommunications, Netcom equipment, power supplies, home automation, etc.
