Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: ARW) is collaborating with Kontron, a global leader in embedded computing technology, to bring smart, connected “Internet of Things” technology to rail and train travel. The two companies are exhibiting Kontron’s innovative TRACe™ technology this week at Railway Interchange 2015, one of the largest combined railway exhibition and technical conferences in North America.
The customization, integration and manufacturing support we provide Kontron are right in Arrow’s sweet spot.
Arrow’s Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) Computing Solutions business provides customized storage solutions and integration support for the Kontron family of modular TRACe computers—a comprehensive line of rugged computers designed explicitly to cost-effectively manage and monitor railroad system operations, safety and reliability by providing real-time status information to train operators.
“Arrow is excited to work with Kontron on enhancing the safety, efficiency and overall reliability of rail transportation through smart, connected technology like TRACe,” said Brian Armstrong, vice president of Arrow’s OEM computing solutions business. “The customization, integration and manufacturing support we provide Kontron are right in Arrow’s sweet spot.”
Kontron’s TRACe computers function as gateways, control-management systems and network video recorders. They can monitor large rail fleets spread across great distances, and their feature-rich building blocks allow for design flexibility. TRACe computers are Railways EN15055 certified and feature leading-edge computer technology, including Intel Quad-core processors and multiple memory and storage devices.
“Kontron has enjoyed a long and prosperous relationship with Arrow,” said Kevin Rhoads, executive vice president, business unit avionics, transportation and defense for Kontron. “We knew exactly who to turn to when we needed support integrating and customizing our connected TRACe technology.”
In addition to providing Kontron with customization and integration support for its TRACe products, Arrow also markets and distributes Kontron’s full line of embedded computing products across the Americas and EMEA.
