Digilent’s New Pmod Components Bring Flexibilty to Control Systems

Published By

Digilent, whose dynamic logic boards have simplified microcontroller capabilities into easy-to-use modules, has released another set of components to their Peripheral Module (Pmod) line: the 410-341 Multi-Touch Display System (MTDS), the 410-342 Solid State Relay (SSR) Electronic Switch and the 410-345 Video Graphics Array (VGA).

The Pmod line of flexible I/O interface componentry combines the robustness of Digilent’s programmable boards with the versatility of interchangeable sensors, user displays, inputs, actuators and more. Using their unique 6-, 8- and 12-pin interchange connectors, you can design and implement any number of useful features into your control system.

The 410-341 is a 2.8” capacitive touch-screen display akin to the types used in most smartphone and tablet technologies. With its two finger multi-touch support, Pmod’s 6-pin port and its small yet powerful on-board graphics microprocessor, the 341 is a powerful tool for use in user display and input. One key feature of the 341 is its integrated firmware and compatibility with Digilent’s associated display libraries. This allows you to create elegant and effective visual interfaces, with very little additional coding.

The 410-342 is an SSR switch that can be used to control inputs/outputs by using solid state semiconductors and their abilities to transfer electrons in a confined space instead of larger electro-mechanical relays, which require finicky moving parts. The 342 uses the compactness of SSR, along with the convenience of a general-purpose I/O switch and Pmod’s 6-pin interface to make a big impact on your system in a tiny (1.7” x 0.8”) package.

The 410-345 is a VGA port, which you can use to communicate your Digilent logic board to the outside world, allowing for external display on most standard monitors and televisions. The 345 can display a 12-bit RGB444 color depth, with up to a 150MHz pixel refresh rate through the 12-pin Pmod port.

With their new additions to the Pmod line, Digilent has boosted the capabilities of their increasingly versatile logic board systems, and their transferable components make growing and developing your logic system a breeze.
