Extended Power Chip Resistor Families PSx, TLR and WK73 from KOA

KOA is now offering:

  • – Power shunt resistors with ultra-low resistance suitable for large current sensing, as well as a broad operating temperature in the PSx series
  • – Current sense shunts down to 0.5mΩ from TLR series as filletless SMD types with low height
  • – New high-power options in its WK73R and WK73S resistor series with wide terminal construction

PSx2 Series: Metal Plate Power Shunts 244A, 3920 & 2512 inch

For high current applications, KOA has now expanded its existing Power Shunt series by adding the PSJ2 and the PSL2. The PSJ2 (3920 inch) resistor can measure currents up to 244 A (200 µOhm). Constructed using a solid metal alloy resistance element with copper terminations, the device provides superior corrosion and heat resistance and has excellent pulse resistance. The PSJ2 and the PSL2 have a very low profile with a thickness of between 0.84 mm and 1.98 mm.

PSx4 Series: Metal Plate Power Shunts, 4 Terminal, 2725 & 1216 inch

For high current applications, KOA introduces two new series of 4 terminal current shunts.

Constructed using a solid metal alloy resistance element with copper terminations the device provides superior corrosion and heat resistance and has excellent pulse resistance.

These new shunt resistors are ideal for accurate high current sensing in automotive and industrial applications as well as in pulse applications.

TLR Series: Current Sensing Resistors Metal Plate Technology

TLR metal plate current sensing resistors are now offered in the ultra-low resistance range 0.5mΩ…20mΩ and allow increased power ratings up to 5 W (2512) at +110°C terminal temperature. Special trimming gives the device low inductance as well as reduced 'hot spot ' power dissipation. The TLR series also has excellent pulse resistance and high-frequency characteristics.

WK73 Series: High Power Wide Terminal Chip Resistors

High reliability and enhanced terminal strength are essential in all power applications. KOA’s wide terminal resistors offer several advantages compared to standard footprints. The 0612 chip size allows 6 x power rating compared to standard 1206 parts. This saves board space and is possible due to the improved heat dissipation via the solder joints. The large terminals also enhance terminal strength and the smaller distance between the terminals reduces expansion stress. Finally, the inner resistive pattern is designed to minimize hotspots. These benefits combine to deliver superior reliability compared to standard flat chip resistors.
