Simplify field servicing of LED lighting applications with push-button type LED Array Holders from Molex that enable easy wire insertion and removal without the need for an extraction tool.
LED array makers are constantly striving to achieve greater luminosity, simplified field installation and reliable thermal, optical and electrical performance. Choices of COB array attachments include cumbersome hand soldering or the more reliable LED holder method in three main styles: releasable wire-trap types that require an extraction tool; pre-wired types; or two-piece connector assembly types.
When wire removal is required, extraction-tool styles meet the need but add cost, process time and inventory requirements for the tool. To meet this need, Molex incorporated a lever-actuated wire-trap contact design from its Lite-Trap™ product family into an LED array holder for Samsung’s 13.5, 14.5 and 19 mm LES (light emitting surface) diameter COB arrays.
For its new COB arrays, Samsung was looking for an array holder that could provide the simplest way to insert and remove solid wire. This unique approach has created one of the industry’s first wire-removable LED array holders that does not require the secondary process costs required of extraction-tool types. Solid wire is directly inserted to the holder where it pushes open a low-insertion force gate-style terminal and traps the wire in place. This provides low insertion force, a reliable contact interface, reduced overall applied costs and easy wire removal.
