HPCN is a high-performance computing, evaluation and development platform supporting the MPC8641D dual-core processor built on Power Architecture® technology, as well as the MPC8641 single-core version.

HPCN’s official designation is “HPCN”, and may be ordered using part number MCEVALHPCN-8641D.

HPCN is optimized to support the high-bandwidth memory ports for each processor core, as well as the two PCI-Express® ports, one dedicated for graphics or other slot-based cards, and the other dedicated for Linux® I/O with the ULI south-bridge.

The system is primarily a development and evaluation system, which is enhanced by its modular design, making it highly configurable.

HPCN is designed to the micro-ATX form-factor standard, allowing it to be used in 1U or 2U rack-mount chassis’, as well as in a standard ATX/Micro-ATX chassis. It is preloaded with U-boot and CodeWarrior Linux BSP.

• Local Bus: 8 MB flash, Promjet flash emulator, and Actel Pixis FPGA
• High-Speed Serial Interface:
  • SerDes Port 1: Configured in x1/x4 PCI Express mode connected to the ULI south-bridge
  • SerDes Port 2: Configurable to x1/x2/x4/x8 PCI Express mode or x1/x4 SRIO mode
• South Bridge: ULI 1575
  • IDE controller for parallel and serial ATA
  • Dual 2.0 USB connectors
  • Bridge to dual PCI slots
• Power Supply: Dedicated unified VCORE for the processor, VTT/VREF for DDR, and general I/O power
• Debug: JTAG/COP via an onboard connector
• Configurations: Hardware and software enabled configurations
• Software Support: U-Boot bootloader, CodeWarrior Linux BSP, and DINK Debugger available
