Surface mount current sense resistor chips.
Bourns range of surface mount current sense resistor chips come in a wide variety. They range from 0805 sized up to 2512 sized. The power rating goes from 0.5 W up to 3 W and resistance values from 1 mOhm to 100 mOhm. Resistance tolerances come in 1 % and 5 % and the TCRs are as low as 75 ppm. Coupling the size with the resistance tolerances, makes these devices idea current sense resistors for a wide range of consumer and industrial electronics such as power supplies, battery packs and white good appliances.
Current Sense Chip Resistors are used to monitor the current in a circuit and translate the amount of current in that circuit into a voltage that can be easily measured and monitored. Such current sensing resistors are designed to have low resistance so as to minimize power consumption. They complete with many other technologies such as current transformers, hall effect sensors and Rogowski coils and prove to be disruptive solution due to their low comparable costs and lack of hysteresis and saturation problems.
