Mobile phones have totally changed people’s lifestyle. They enable people to log on to the internet, play games or work any time and any place, transcending the barriers of time and space. However, insufficient battery capacity still makes things inconvenient. Heavy users think it is troublesome to charge the battery all the time. Now, there are new solutions for battery charging. Regardless if it is wired or wireless, it brings new experiences to users.
Wired charging is faster, and wireless charging is more convenient
At present, the new USB interface had evolved from Micro USB to USB Type-C, which can be plugged in on both sides – up or down. It makes connecting the USB cord when charging more convenient. With advantages of being fast and convenient, it shortens the time for data transfer and power charging. Presented by CYPRESS, CCG2 USB TYPE-C UFP side demo board is a kind of USB TYPE-C PD controller for the use of "Consumer" side (Sink UFP). It provides USB TYPE-C protocol pairing with the “Provider” side (Source DFP). The controller can demand the power voltage in accordance with the information from the pairing. The application output voltage ranges from 5V to the maximum of 20V 3A. It can be used on the chargeable battery transmitted with USB TYPE-C for charging. For example, it is applicable to charging batteries of power tools or any UFP application with USB TYPE-C power delivery.
In addition, TI has presented the TPS25740 USB TYPE-C DFP demo board. It is a kind of USB TYPE-C power delivery controller and can be used on "Provider" side (Source DFP). It can pair USB TYPE-C and Sink UFP protocol with CC pin with current sensing control and output switch MOSFET control. It can also feedback control to the SMPS. The controller provides 5V, 12V, and 20V of power supply in accordance with the paired information of the controller. It can reach 5A in electric current. Consumers just need to change the power supply into USB TYPE-C power supply or charger for the use of different kinds of charging cords so that it can be used with USB TYPE-C power supply, power charger, and DFP (source side) applications.
Wireless charging is one of the essential functions of high-end smartphones. It also provides users more convenience in charging. Many restaurants, cafés, and more have installed wireless charging equipment to provide customers with convenient charging services. This will bring a revolution to wireless charging applications. Microtips Technology Inc. presents wireless charging products that meet the AirFuel Alliance standard. Using magnetic resonance technology, this product has been certified with BSS 1.3. Including MTWP3501AF BSS 1.3 PTU and Class 3 transmitter, it takes DC input up to 18v/1A. Paired with MTWP3401XA BSS 1.3 PRU category 3 receiver, it provides the power output up to 5V, 1.1A. With bigger charging area, it does not need alignment devices, and provides multi-device charging. Even if the devices have different power requirements, it can still conduct charging at the same time. The charging system can be monitored with BLE technology to achieve optimal charging zone. It even supports Z axis vertically placed charging mode for the maximum convenience of charging electronic devices.
Revolution in charging - Easy pairing for mobile devices
There is no conflict between USB Type-C wired and wireless charging technology. Electronic device manufacturers can integrate both technologies in their electronic devices to provide consumers more options in battery charging. Users can choose USB Type-C wired or wireless charging in accordance with their conditions to charge freely and enjoy a mobile life.
