Turn Your BeagleBone® Green Wireless into a Smart Home System

게시자

Get your BeagleBone Green Wireless up and running quickly with this DIY project that brings together new and innovative embedded system dev boards and kits from Seeed to create a sensor-powered smart home system.

You only need a few parts to get this home control system up and running, and you can easily add more features to the project once you have gotten started with the essentials. If you’re familiar with BeagleBone, these kits and boards are enough to get you started. If you’re new to the BeagleBoard® ecosystem, detailed step-by-step design instructions are available on Instructables and SeeedStudio when you search “Home Control Center.”

Here's what you'll need:

1.) BeagleBone Green Wireless

The first thing that you will need for this project is the BeagleBone Green Wireless, which is a WiFi and Bluetooth enabled adaptation of the BeagleBone Black. This board has differentiated itself from the BeagleBone Black by removing the onboard HDMI to make room for two Grove connectors, making it easier to connect to a variety of plug-and-play Grove sensors.

2.) Grove Base Cape for Beaglebone v2.0

Next, you will need a few sensors in order to interact with your home environment. The best way to add connectors to your new BeagleBone Green Wireless is via the Grove Base Cape for BeagleBone v2.0.  This cape board takes the 92 GPIO pins available on the BBGW and condenses them into 12 easy-to-use Grove connectors to begin your plug-and-play connecting.

3.) Grove Air Quality Sensor v1.3

The first sensor you will need for your smart home system is the Grove Air Quality Sensor v1.3, which is designed for indoor air monitoring.  It detects a large array of different gasses, but primarily focuses on detecting carbon monoxide, alcohol, acetone, formaldehyde, and other toxic gases.

4.) Grove Temperature Sensor

Next, you will need a Grove Temperature sensor to measure the temperature around your smart home system. With an accurate detection range of -40 to 125°C, you can detect the temperature of your environment even if you are living on the South Pole or in the Sahara Desert.

5.) Grove Relay Board

Lastly, if you want to actually have control of your environment and be able to allocate power to appliances with the touch of a virtual button, you will need the Grove Relay Board.  This awesome little switch is capable of a peak voltage of 250V at 10 amps, enough to power on your HVAC system, or just power on your turtle’s heat lamp.
