International Rectifier, an Infineon Technologies Company, presents a 700 V high-voltage IC, which is optimized for solar applications. The IR7304SPBF gate and power MOSFET/IGBT driver HVIC offers high speed and provides high-side and a low-side referenced output channel.
The IR7304S is designed to be used with low-cost bootstrap power supplies. Proprietary HVIC and latch immune CMOS technologies have been implemented in a rugged monolithic structure. The floating logic input is compatible with standard CMOS or LSTTL outputs (down to 3.3 V logic). The output drivers feature a high-pulse current buffer stage designed for minimum driver cross-conduction. Shoot-through (cross-conduction) protection circuitry and a minimum dead-time circuitry have also been integrated into this IC.
Propagation delays are matched to simplify the IR7304SPBF’s use in high-frequency applications. The floating channels may be used to drive N-channel power MOSFETs or IGBTs in the high-side configuration, which operate up to 700 V.
The device’s gate drive supplies up to 20 V per channel, and its integrated dead-time protection is 100 ns. The IR7304SPBF offers undervoltage lockout for VCC and for VBS. The International Rectifier IR7304S is 3.3 V-, 5 V-, and 15-V input logic compatible. The HVIC’s output is in phase with input. Additionally, it is tolerant to negative transient voltage. It is also RoHS compliant and lead free.
According to International Rectifier, IR7304S has an output voltage between 10 V to 20 V. The Io+ and Io- (minimum) is 60 mA /130 mA, and the tON & tOFF (typical) are both 220 ns. The device’s typical dead-time is 100 ns. It is available in an eight-lead SOIC package.
The IR7304S is ideally used in conjunction with bootstrap power supplies. One of the most widely used methods to supply power to the high-side drive circuitry of a gate driver IC is the bootstrap power supply. The bootstrap power supply consists of a bootstrap diode and a bootstrap capacitor. This method has the advantage of being both simple and low-cost. However, the requirement to refresh the charge on the bootstrap capacitor may result in limitations on the power converter’s duty-cycle and the power switch’s on-time. Proper capacitor and bootstrap resistance selection can drastically reduce these limitations.
Potential applications for the IR7304S range from appliance motor drives, servo drives, and micro inverter drives to general purpose, three-phase inverters. International Rectifier Corporation is a world leader in power management technology. Top manufacturers of computers, energy-efficient appliances, lighting products, automobiles, satellites, aircraft, and defense systems rely on International Rectifier’s power management benchmarks to power their next-generation products.
