Low-power, high-accuracy pressure sensing for battery-powered and wearable devices.
The video demonstrates the ultra-high sensitivity of Infineon’s DPS310 digital barometric pressure sensor, and shows how it works in standard and high precision modes in selected use cases. Watch the DPS310 product demonstration and learn more about how it achieves its ultra-high resolution.
The DPS310 sensor offers high accuracy and precision in variable environmental conditions and across temperature changes with a precision of +/-0.005 hPa and low current consumption of just 1.7 μA. It is based on the capacitive MEMS technology, which enables very low noise and ultra-high resolution. Capacitive sensing technology is a perfect fit solution for the applications involving human body motion, among them fitness monitoring, health wearables, pedometers, etc.
The video features a DPS310 sensor operating in standard mode and high precision mode. The sensor is connected to a smartphone which is running an Android application showing the sensor readouts. A camera attached to the presenter’s chest records the movements.
In the standard precision mode, the DPS310 is capable of detecting very small movements. When run in the high precision mode, the sensor can sense movements as small as a few centimeters. The DPS can easily detect events such as the opening and closing of a door and the smartphone applications can display the pressure change related to this event, as well as the direction it came from. The DPS310 can also be used to measure altitude, and the video demonstrates how height can be measured using the digital barometric sensor.
