No strings attached - wireless charging for consumer applications. Power the future with Infineon’s components.
As a member of the Wireless Power Consortium and the AirFuel Alliance, Infineon actively shapes the trends of tomorrow and continuously develops advanced wireless charging solutions. The offering includes cost-efficient components for transmitter units that ensure optimal wireless power transfer to various receiver applications - smartphones, wearables, notebooks and other low voltage drive devices.
Wireless charging removes the hassle of re-fueling your devices and makes it convenient. By using electromagnetic field to transfer power from a transmitter to a receiver application, it charges your battery without a physical connection.
Currently two wireless charging standards stand out on the market: inductive and resonant. These standards are mainly driven by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and the AirFuel alliance where Infineon is member of both.
AirFuel offers a resonant technology which allows greater distance between transmitter and receiver in X, Y and Z direction, multi-device charging from a single transmitter, and tolerance for misalignment and different orientation of the receiver. The Rx-Tx communication takes place with bluetooth® low energy and is operating on high frequency 6.78 MHz. As resonant solutions are bringing higher power ratings of up to 70 W, they can be integrated and add easier to things like furniture without the need to alter the original design. Devices with a metal back case can then be charged without any limitations.
Compared to resonant solutions, devices need to be positioned more accurate when using inductive solution. The communication between transmitter and receiver is handled via in-band communication. A tightly coupled solution allows for efficient power transfer of 75% and greater. By using Infineon components, which are in compliance with Qi (Wireless Power Consortium) and inductive AirFuel standards, customers can reduce their Bill-of-Material (BOM) due to best price performance ratios in the industry.
Infineon’s product portfolio includes optimal design solutions for transmitter and receiver unit that ensure wireless power transfer to various receiver applications - smartphones, wearables, notebooks and other low voltage drive devices. Customers also have at their disposal a wide range of ready-to-use reference designs to create their inverter, adapter or charger solution and achieve faster time-to-market.
