What You Need to Know About MEMS Accelerometers for Condition Monitoring

MEMS accelerometers are making a big impact on the market – they’re highly integrated, easy to deploy, cost effective, and they’ve expanded their use in facilities and equipment that can benefit from condition monitoring. While MEMS accelerometers are a bit noisier than legacy mechanical sensors, condition-monitoring designers are choosing to incorporate them into designs for several good reasons.

Two main reasons for using MEMS accelerometers are size and weight. In today’s market, a high performance triaxial MEMS device in a surface-mount package can be as small as 6mm x 6mm, which is great for airborne applications such as health and usage monitoring systems where weight is extremely expensive.
