In this spotlight on supplier video, we do a short interview with Marty Golub, the national account manager of the Chicago-based supplier Tripp Lite. Read more below for a brief summary and highlights of his answers.
Who is Tripp Lite and what sort of products do you specialize in?
Tripp Lite has been around for about 95 years this year and we make products like severs racks, we make everything that fits into a server rack except the server itself, and we’ll be going over other products that we manufacture.
UPS
One of the primary things that Tripp Lite sell is UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supplies), these are basically batteries in a box that keeps your system running when there is a black out. The bigger UPS are the Three-phases UPS, which are used for those big applications for big server rooms. We also sell smaller UPS, which are used for your tower, computer system, or workstation and you can lay them either horizontally or vertically. We also have different formfactor UPS.
Surge Protector and Medical Grade Power Strips/Surge Protector
Tripp Lite also makes surge protectors, we are the number one surge protection line according to NPD data. We have rotatable outlets, so if you have one of those transformer blocks, you can rotate it, so it won’t block other outlets. It can even have USB charging. Tripp Lite has the most variety surge protectors out there, including direct plug in modules. We have the number one surge protector line in the US.
We also sell power strips and surge protectors that are medical grade. Some of the units have special UL certifications that are required by hospital. We also make other medical grade products like lighting conditioner, isolation transformers, and UPS.

Inverters
We also make a variety of inverters that can be used in a verity of applications. We have a small converter that can be used in a car and even fit into a cupholder. You can plug it into the cigarette lighter and you’ll have 2 AC outlet and 2 USB outlet.

PDU
Trip Lite also sells the big brother to the surge protectors, PDU (Power Distribution Units). You’ll plug these in the back of the UPS when you need more outlets. One of the cool features of a switch PDU is that you can go to an IP address to turn off a specific outlet. Say you have a server that you need to reboot and its far away, you can do it over the web and turn it on or off for individual outlets.

Wall Racks
Tripp Lite also sells wall racks, we make more variety and more sizes than any other manufacturer, we are number one in the NPD data in the wall rack category.
Cooling Units
Tripp Lite makes of variety cooling units for your server room. If your rack and network start getting hot, you can use these to cool them down and prevent them from overheating. We make a variety of product in portable units, inline units, and in-rack units, so all of your cooling needs are covered by Tripp Lite.
Charging Carts
We also make charging carts. This one can hold 36 units and charges alternate between the red and the blue side. We make units that are for USB charging and AC charging units for iPad units. We also have a variety of form factors of these where we have ones you can hang from the wall, others that you can roll around and we go from 16 to 48-unit capacity on our charging carts.
So from what I understand, Tripp Lite has more over 4000 products in their lineup. Is there anything we missed, anything new and exciting to talk about?
Yes, we did miss one category which is cables, and that is about 2000 skus of our product line at Tripp Lite. We are the number 2 cable provider according to NPD data. One of the newest hottest items we have in stock now is the USB-C. This is used for a plethora of products including some of the new mac books that are coming out, the Microsoft products that are out there, and even the android phones use these. The Surface Pro it one of them that use these. Now this is a USB hub but the cool thing about the C is that is elegant, like all those other devices it fits into. It Provides power, it really has fast speed and takes up very little space, so Tripp Lite has over 60 skews of USB-c products now that are available. We have anything you need for your computer needs or server room needs at Trip Lite.
