I think we can all agree that the past few months have been a huge adjustment to our daily lives. For the introverts, being quarantined has been a dream come true, for the extroverts, not so much.
I am one of those people who had a hard time getting into a “new normal.” Although being quarantined has made life more challenging, some people found a silver lining and took this opportunity to take on new projects like home improvements and personal projects. I have seen a rise in projects that focus on sustainability and outdoor adventures; mainly to prepare for the influx of people ready to get back outside again in the form of road trips and camping.
One such project I was introduced to was GoSun. The GoSun Flow invention is a solar powered portable water station that is incredibly convenient for the outdoor enthusiast. This device is multifunctional, as it serves as a water purifier for hand washing, showering, and for clean drinking water! Finding clean water can be very tough when you’re outdoors, but with GoSun you can take advantage of any water source you find. Not only is this lightweight device portable, but it also conserves energy allowing multiple uses without having to recharge it or carry around additional batteries.
I had a chance to speak with Gary Starr, who runs business development at GoSun, to learn more about the inspiration behind their product. According to Gary, GoSun Flow wants to develop innovative products that are good for everyday consumers and for the environment. They are committed to emission-free products and have developed several like GoSun Flow that are powered by the sun!
The idea for GoSun Flow came about when the team noticed that other water purifiers on the market either were inefficient or way too expensive for the average consumer. Instead of manual pumping like other filters, GoSun Flow works via a USB-powered pump that does the work for you and enables the delivery of water wherever it is needed. It is connected to a power bank that can be run off your phone, a lithium rechargeable battery, or directly from an integrated solar panel. So far, their crowdfunding campaign has been pretty successful, with over $450,000 raised on Indiegogo from 37 different countries.
The team at GoSun is helping change the way we experience being outdoors, and I’ve been lucky enough to get a chance to work with their team directly with the Arrow Certification Program. GoSun and Arrow engineers collaborated on component selection for the filtration system as well as sourcing logistics and procurement options for items like a waterproof switch.
As public places are beginning to open up again, people are itching to get outdoors, reconnect with nature, and breathe the fresh air. GoSun is the perfect product to help us ease our way back into adventuring. GoSun has a “bright” future in front of them and we are excited to see what they come up with next.
