Hi, I’m Kristen with Arrow.com and today we’re going to take a look at this month’s product picks, with an emphasis on connectors. Although most of the time designers don’t think too much about the little mechanical devices that link electrical components, there truly is a huge variety of connectors, and each type brings its own pros and cons in terms of ease-of-use, performance, durability, and cost. So, let’s get started with my April product picks.
RJ-45 Ethernet Connector from Pulse Electronics
The PulseJack™ series of 1x1 Tab-Down RJ-45 connectors from Pulse Electronics offers 100 Base-TX Fast Ethernet connectors suitable for CAT 5 and 6 Fast Ethernet cables. These connectors have integrated magnetics, various yellow and green LED indicator layouts, and feature the RoHS peak wave solder temperature rating of 260°C. RJ-45 connectors meet or exceed IEEE 802.3 standards for 100Base-TX, such as 350 µH minimum OCL with 8mA bias current and a minimum 1500Vrms isolation. The PulseJack™ series was designed to support SOHO (ADSL modems), LAN-on-Motherboard (LOM), and hub and switch applications.

Cable Clamp from TE Connectivity
The thermoplastic strain relief cable clamp from TE Connectivity allows you to secure multiple wires as well as organize them to create a cleaner, more finished looking project. It includes the cable clamp, two screws, and the lock down insert to better secure your wires or cables. The cable clamp can be threaded directly onto plugs or receptacles, or even onto back-shell extenders. It’s adjustable by inverting or changing the lock down insert.
Beyond aesthetics, strain relief cable clamps can go a long way in reinforcing mechanical strength and electrical integrity, especially in highly volatile environments with wide temperature or movement fluctuations. When you need to protect your connections from wear and tear in demanding conditions, cable clamp connectors are indispensable.

SMT D-Subminiature PCB Connector from ERNI Electronics
This family of SMT D-subminiature connectors from ERNI supports the increasing demand for Surface Mount Technology components and the need for connectors supporting this technology. These connectors offer 9, 15, 25, and 37 pin configurations, standard and Eurostyle assembly heights, and a creepage and clearance of 1.2 mm. They feature a high temperature plastic housing, a black insulator for mating and cable force absorption, and tray packaging for automatic feeding of PCB assembly machines.
In addition, the D-sub connectors have a metal bracket for tilt-free positioning and mating force absorption and they are well-balanced to prevent tilting during soldering and assembly. These D-subminiature connectors from ERNI are designed specifically for applications in fully automated assembly and solder processes.
And there you have it! Hopefully one of these connector types sparked some design inspiration for your next project or solution. Check back soon for more featured products from Arrow.com.
