AD5940 High-Precision, Impedance, and Electrochemical Front End

Precision analog front end including 16-bit 800 kSPS ADC, voltage DACs, 12-bit VBIAS0 output to bias potentiostat, amplifiers, accelerators, on-chip RAM and system-level power saving.

The AD5940 is a high-precision analog front end capable of potentiostat and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, which allows for sensor measurement in both time and frequency domains. Incorporated into the AD®5940 are a 16-bit 800 kSPS ADC with voltage, current and impedance measurement capability and a voltage DAC with output range of 0.2 V to 2.4 V and 12-bit VBIAS0 output to bias potentiostat.

The AD5940 has multiple inbuilt analog circuitry, including a low-power/low-noise potentiostat amplifier (suitable for electrochemical applications), low-noise/low-power TIA, digital waveform generator, receive filters, complex impedance measurement engine, high-speed TIA and internal 2.5 V and 1.82 V reference voltage sources.

The AD5940 also has multiple system-level power savings, including fast power-up and power-down analog blocks, programmable AFE sequencer, 6 kB internal SRAM and ultra-low-power potentiostat current consumption (6.5 μA) when powered on. Interfacing with the AD5940 is done via an SPI serial input/output port, making it compatible with a wide range of microcontrollers, and includes an interrupt controller and wake-up timer.
