LTC4238: High Voltage, High Current, Hot Swap Controller

The LTC4238 is a high voltage high current Hot Swap controller that allows a board to be safely inserted and removed from a live backplane. Dual 12V gate drive is well suited for high power application to either share safe operating areas across parallel MOSFETs or support a 2-stage start-up that first charges the load capacitance followed by enabling a low on-resistance path to the load.

Key Features and Benefits

Drive two gates with configurable parallel, staged start or single MOSFET modes to relax MOSFET requirements and simplify MOSFET selection.
Use FET-Bad monitor to continuously assess key MOSFET vital signs to increase reliability and prevent catastrophic failure.
Parallel multiple LTC4238s to address very high current designs (>>3kW).

Communications/5G: hot swappable backplanes or cards in 12V, 24V and 48V computer/server applications
Industrial Automation: IPCs, factory/office automation, elevator control
Instrumentation: ECB for medical equipment, patient monitoring systems

Evaluation Board

The LTC4238 can be evaluated with the DC2914A.
