The Perfect, Perfectly Rugged RS485 Transceivers for PROFIBUS

Will lightning ever strike the same place twice? It will if a LTC2876 is zapped repeatedly with 26kV of ESD energy to prove just how rugged this PROFIBUS RS485 transceiver is. Find out about that and more in this video from Analog Devices’.

The LTC2876 and LTC2877 are extremely rugged, high voltage tolerant RS485 receivers that are designed for PROFIBUS-DP master and slave devices. As is the case with any fieldbus, PROFIBUS-DP systems are often prone to installation cross-wiring faults, ground voltage faults and surge. This can ultimately result in catastrophic overvoltage conditions due to exceeding the maximum allowable ratings of ordinary transceivers. Yet both of these receivers, whether transmitting, receiving, in standby mode or completely powered off,  successfully eliminate everyday damage due to transmission line faults.

The LTC2876 and LTC2877 also have low jitter, low distortion, minimal time variation at zero crossing, low sensitivity to timing errors, and a high signal-to-noise ratio. And full failsafe operation guarantees that the output for either  receiver will be in a logic 1 state when inputs are shorted, left open or terminated but not driven.

All of these factors contribute to making the LTC2876 and LTC2877 ideal for applications such PROFIBUS-DP, industrial communication networks, RS485 and RS422 systems, plus 3V low voltage differential signaling.
