In this article, learn how to set up a fully operational optical liquid measurement platform. Get support on hardware selection and design + integration files, then build and test your new tool.
Circuit Function and Benefits
Optical measurement is useful in a broad range of applications. It’s contact-free, non-destructive, high-precision, and high-sensitivity.
Circuit Description
A basic optical measurement system includes a fixed or adjustable wavelength monochromatic light source, a means of defining the sample geometry (such as a cuvette or flow-through cell), one or more photodetectors, and a multimodal sensor front end.
In the system discussed in this article, the multimodal sensor is an Analog Devices ADPD4101 which is integrated into a CN-0503 circuit evaluation board. This setup can handle up to four optical paths, which are all configurable. It is also able to evaluate and reject any ambient light that might be present, leading to higher accuracy.
Conclusion
With all required schematics, layout files, bill of materials, mechanical drawings, and software easily available from Analog Devices, the guesswork of developing a liquid optical measurement system is removed. For more information about setup parameters and procedures, click through to the article.
