Working on an LED lighting display? These three LED solutions impressed our lighting engineers. See how they can make your LED project stand out too.
1.) LED with Built-in Resistor from Visual Communications Company
What it is:
These 3 or 5 mm through-hole LEDs are available in the standard red, green, blue, yellow or white colors. Their flange-lead frame style makes them perfect for display or status indication applications in boats, landscape lighting, storage servers, and the automotive industry.
Why we like it:
With standard LEDs, you always need a resistor in series to limit the current flow. But with this family of high-brightness LEDs from VCC, a built-in resistor provides 12 V operation. This means you can streamline your design by connecting the LED directly to a 12 V power supply without any additional components.

2.) LED Driver from Microchip
What it is:
This off-line LED driver IC from Microchip is geared to drive a high voltage LED load and is designed for general LED lighting products such as LED lamps and LED lighting fixtures. It’s also compatible with SEPIC topology for low output voltage applications.
Why we like it:
Loads arranged for high-voltage can provide real cost advantages for both heat management and optics. This driver offers true DC output current and protects the load from line voltage transients. It has a maximum power rating of about 25 Watts at 120 VAC and about 50 Watts at 230 VAC. Its boost converter has a cascade switch to allow high-speed switching and convenient generation of VDD supply. The control device for this cascode switch is an integral part of the off-line LED driver and is rated at 700 mA.

3.) LED Panel-Mount Indicators from Dialight
What it is:
Dialight’s 557 series of high-intensity LED panel-mount indicators feature a low-profile, flat-lens design, operating voltages of 5, 12, or 24 VDC, and a long life of up to 100,000 hours. These polycarbonate indicators are available in red, yellow, green, blue, and white for 5, 12 or 24 VDC operating voltages. Application examples include transit vehicles, instrument control panels, vending and gaming machines, military vehicles, and lane control.
Why we like it:
The 557 series offers an unmatched level of brightness with their multi-LED construction, designed to be visible in full daylight. Combine that with their highly durable package, and these indicators are perfect for outdoor applications susceptible to rain, dust, and intense sunlight.
