Infineon’s comprehensive product portfolio serves the most demanding industrial robotic requirements. Cutting-edge IGBT, IPM and MOSFET technologies address motor control and secure high efficiency, power density and level of integration, thus allowing shrinking the size of the control box. The XMC MCU solutions offer the industry’s first ever EtherCAT® node. Motor Control

Infineon serves all types of industrial robots regardless of their payload and size. Its dedicated solutions for motor control include IGBTs and IPM solutions which allow a high level of integration, power density, and efficiency. These are the best fit for medium to high payload robots.

For low payload robots, especially in the collaborative environment, Infineon offers one of the broadest MOSFET portfolios on the market. The portfolio includes the OPTIMOS™ family which comes in a wide range of packages and offers the industry’s best-in-class performance in terms of switching and conduction losses, resulting in the most compact and efficient designs of the drive units and control boxes.

The StrongIRFET™ is Infineon’s MOSFET solution for all low-switching applications. It features a high current capability and offers a low RDS(on) for high system reliability and robustness.

XMC

The XMC4800 is Infineon’s MCU solution for robot motor control. The 32bit microcontroller features an integrated ARM® Cortex®-M4 CPU with a frequency of up to 144MHz and offers a comprehensive set of flexible timers for precise motor control and current sensing. It is the industry’s first ever MCU integrating an EtherCAT® node, which enables the most compact and cost efficient designs.

Radar

Infineon radar solution provides superior safety for collaborative and non-collaborative environments by scanning the robot’s workspace and preventing clamping and contact situations.

Safety

Safety is crucial for collaborative robots. As a solution, Infineon offers its linear hall sensors for torque measurement in a robot arm. The advantage of this solution comes from the “dual die” concept: the sensor houses two galvanic isolated dies which allows redundancy in the signal generation, thereby ensuring the safest and most reliable designs in the robotic environment. In addition, Infineon’s angle sensors and hall latches are ideally suited for precise sensing of the rotor’s position. The hall latches feature precise magnetic thresholds (±2 mT) enabling smooth torque. Infineon angle sensors can detect the absolute orientation of a magnetic field between 0 and 360 degrees.  

Security

Security is a crucial topic for industrial robotic and a critical enabler for ensuring safety in working environment. Infineon’s OPTIGA™ family of embedded security solutions offers secured authentication and communication that prevents counterfeit and unexpected line downs, and helps to protect  intellectual property and business models.
