What is a Vision System?
A vision system encompasses much more than "just" a camera. When it comes to industrial image processing, there are many tasks, from quality controls to sorting foods, that require more than just one single camera. Responsibilities like these require a more comprehensive image processing system, known as a vision system. Two trends in particular -- miniaturization of PCs and of cameras -- make it possible for vision systems to be produced affordably and for highly specific applications. Systems of this kind are referred to as embedded vision systems.
Thies Moeller, image processing and embedded vision expert from Basler, details the most important components of this kind of system and explains how it is structured and what advantages it offers.
