Learn more about the importance of detecting and interpreting the vibration profile of machinery in this article from Analog Devices.
In comparison to piezoelectric accelerometers, MEMS accelerometers offer the most favorable cost, weight, power and ease of use for industrial machinery. Because of these features, it’s easier to embed multiple MEMS accelerometers in to industrial equipment for accurate vibration detecting and diagnosis — particularly when vibration patterns are abnormal. Subtle changes in these patterns can help detect mechanical issues that may cause a slowdown in production or total equipment failure. These changes include shifts in frequencies of vibration tones, the onset of harmonics and a change in frequency bands in broadband vibration amplitude.
