NXP’s latest and greatest addition to the i.MX processor family is the i.MX8 Series of application processors. This new series provides a feature- and performance-scalable multicore platform for advanced graphics, machine vision, and other media applications. The MCIMX8M-EVK is an all-inclusive development kit made to give developers access to the i.MX 8M quad application processor.
The i.MX 8 Series consists of three main families: i.MX 8 family for advanced graphics (launching late 2018/early 2019), i.MX 8X family ideally suited for safety-critical and efficient performance applications (launching Sept 2018) and the i.MX 8M family for advanced audio and video (launching Feb 2018). The MCIMX8M-EVK is a development board dedicated to enabling use of the i.MX 8M family putting immediate advanced audio and video capabilities in the hands of developers.
The i.MX 8M Family
The onboard processor is the i.MX 8M quad app processor which has 4xARM Cortex-A53 and 1xCortex M4 Cores, making it perfect for advanced multimedia applications. The development board features 3GB of on-board LPDDR4, 16GB of eMMC 5.0, 32MB Octal SPI NOR flash, a wide array of physical connectivity, MIMO 2x2 WiFi and BT4.2, and even an audio jack. The evaluation kit comes with the CPU board, a 12V/5A power supply (1.65x5.15mm plug), two USB cables (Type-C and micro-B), and a quick start guide to get you up and running in no time.
i.MX 8M Key Applications
• Streaming video devices – over-the-top (OTT) set top boxes, digital media adapters, digital signage, machine visual inspection
• Streaming audio devices – surround sound, wireless or networked speakers, sound bars, audio/video (AV) receivers, public address systems
• Voice control and voice assistants – with reference designs for homes or noisy industrial environments
• General purpose human machine interface (HMI) solutions − touch, voice, graphics, video, image analytics, vision, sensor
